Samsung confirms satellite communications coming to phones next year
Satellite communications, a feature that Apple had introduced with the iPhone 14 a few months prior, was anticipated to be included in the Samsung Galaxy S23 last year. In essence, the function allows you to establish a satellite connection when a regular phone signal is unavailable due to an emergency. Although it’s a specialized feature you have to hope you never need, some people have already found it to be invaluable.
However, Samsung refrained from releasing the feature, claiming that the business was not ready to embrace it. Samsung President of Mobile Experience TM Roh responded, “Of course, for Samsung Galaxy, for our mobile division, we would also actively consider adopting this feature when the right timing, infrastructure, and technology is ready.”
Although the Samsung Galaxy S24 was not specifically mentioned, a high-end feature like this seems inevitable for the flagship device. It might not show up if the device isn’t ready for the anticipated February release date; in that case, it might show up in the company’s foldables, which have usually followed in August. Regardless, if it is in the S24, you would anticipate seeing it in the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 as well.
When the feature was first leaked for the Galaxy S23, it was anticipated to be fairly basic, enabling sharing of low-resolution images and emergency SMS text messages. It’s unclear if Samsung has been able to improve on this with more time, but the reasoning at the time was that adding features like voice and high-speed data would necessitate a much larger antenna. For a feature that most customers will never use, the ensuing design trade-offs make no sense.
If it makes it to the S24 series, it’s not likely to be the primary selling point because all three phones will be powered by the AI-powered Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, maybe in a more powerful “For Galaxy” version like the one from last year.
Once again, cameras are anticipated to be a major selling feature, particularly with the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, which is expected to provide a “significant improvement” in the 3x zoom camera and an intriguing tool for filmmakers in the form of tracked zoomed video and a full angle shot simultaneously.
I loved you even more than you’ll say here. The picture is nice and your writing is stylish, but you read it quickly. I think you should give it another chance soon. I’ll likely do that again and again if you keep this walk safe.
